Empire
Empire, is a collection of photographs that speaks to the history of American media and representation. This grouping of pictures addresses a history of image making; images that become imprinted in the conscious and unconscious mind, affecting how we see ourselves and others and enforcing a hierarchical power structure based on race and economics. The lens through which people have been dipicted, their human experience left out, by using a formula of substitute actors to dehumanize, lays at the center of American media history. Within Empire, satirization is employed with the aim to turn this history inside out.
